Patek Philippe Calatrava "Patek Service" ref. 3509

This rare 34mm Steel Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 3509 is in unpolished condition and comes with a Patek Philippe service (incl. invoice).

The Ref. 3509 combines both contemporary and the famous vintage Bauhaus elements, from the design of the steel case to the rare pattern on the dial.

The more than 60-year-old Patek is, as you can see on our pictures, in amazing unpolished condition. It breaths class and a distinguished style.

Patek Philippe dress watches are usually made out of precious metals. It is only on rare occasions that you find a steel one. So this Ref. 3509 is very limited produced between +/- 1960 and 1969. A rough indication of the rarity of steel Pateks around this production era: Ref. 1518, +/- 280 watches were produced, only 4 were made with a steel case.

With a case size of 34mm, the watch wears at least 2mm larger than its dimensions would suggest. Because of the straight lugs, the perfectly circular case with the wide-set smooth bezel that gives the watch a larger presence on the wrist. The recognizable Patek crown bears the famous Calatrava cross.

The brand new and unworn Black croco strap from Patek Philippe is fitted with a new steel Patek Philippe tang buckle.

The dial is in perfect proportians and is applied silver hour indexes are finished with a polish with multiple facets. The "Patek Philippe Genève" logo has subtle serif details, which is a typical distinctive vintage aesthetic. In particular, the accent on the "è" of "Genève" is a feature most attributed to the Patek’s earlier pieces. The acrylic crystal is also in great condition and give the watch that warm and vintage vibe.

This Calatrava wears the Calibre 23-300, this movement was produced between 1956 and 1975. The movement of this Patek is fully serviced by Patek Philippe in Japan, so it runs like it should. This high-quality calibre has a compact size, because of that it was used for many Calatrava and Ellipse models. This movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has an overcoil hairspring and a free-sprung Gyromax balance.
