There's something special about white gold Day-Dates, not as flashy as the yellow gold version and therefore it's probably more versatile and easier to enjoy. This 36mm 18k white gold Day-Date with reference 1803-9 is in great condition. The white gold oyster watch case is very sharp with nice and thick lugs. It comes on a leather strap with original Rolex buckle. The rare silver linen pie-pan dial is fully original with applied white gold hour markers with a subtle black inlay, the lume has nicely aged and matches the hands. The automatic movement was fully checked and is running nicely on time. The day and date (with open 6 and 9) wheels are both original, the day is indicated in English. The watch was produced by Rolex in 1972. The watch comes together with the orignal box and papers.
The Day-Date is one of the most iconic Rolex watches. It was worn by presidents (hence its bracelet name), famous- and infamous people and became the watch to own if you were succesful. The watch was exclusivly made in precious metals (yellow gold, rose gold and platinum). It's named after the functions of the watch. It displays both the day (at the 12 o'clock position) and the date (at the 3 o'clock position). The cool thing about the Day-Date for collectors is that it's made in a very large variety of finishes and dials.
The Rolex Day-Date was first created for a small niche, and later became one of the most iconic Rolex models ever produced. 1961 was the first time the ref. 1803 (fluted bezel) appeared in the Rolex collection.
