This rare and stunning reference 1016 Rolex Explorer is one of the last watches produced with this reference. The watch case is stamped with a L serial, dating it back to 1989 - or the last production year of the reference 1016. Watches from this last production batch are highly sought after by collectors. The watch we have on offer here is in great condition. The 36mm stainless steel osyter case is in perfect condition with nice and sharp thick lugs. The oyster bracelet is the original model for this watch and is in virtually in stretch free condition, the bracelet is newer than the watch case. The real centerpiece of this watch is the dial, it's in very good condition with nice eggshell colored lume matching perfectly with the lume on the hands. The automatic cal. 1570 movement was recently fully serviced and runs great.
HISTORY
Rolex introduced the Explorer in 1953 to celebrate that 2 mountaineers climbed Mount Everest - ofcourse wearing Rolex Explorer watches on their wrists. The Explorer has been in production ever since and is one of the all time classics from Rolex. Watch collectors love this watch for it’s simple and beautiful design.
Since the watch's birth, Rolex has continued to update the Explorer.
Rolex first introduced the reference Explorer 1016 in ‘59, and it was in production until 1989.
The Explorer stayed almost the same in appearance during this period. The only noteable change was a switch from glossy to matte dials in ‘66.
This is one of the most versatile models from Rolex. It looks great during any occasion, from casual to formal. The ref. 1016 continues to gain in popularity with collectors and is a favorite for many.
