HISTORY
Rolex introduced the Explorer in 1953 to celebrate that 2 mountaineers climbed Mount Everest - of course wearing Rolex Explorer watches on their wrists. The Explorer has been in production ever since and is one of the all time classics from Rolex. Watch collectors love this watch for it’s simple and beautiful design. Since the watch's birth, Rolex has continued to update the Explorer.
Rolex first introduced the reference Explorer 1016 in ‘59, and it was in production until 1989. The Explorer stayed almost the same in appearance during this period. The only notable change was a switch from glossy to matte dials in ‘66.
