About the watch

CONDITION
This rare Rolex Day-Date 1811 with 'morellis' finish is quite exceptional. The morellis is very uncommon and sought after by collectors. This specific watch is in very good original condition for it's age - dating all the way back to the sixties. The watch case is still nice and thick with even brushing on the lugs. It's fitted on it's original yellow gold president bracelet also with the same morellis finish nicely matching the bezel. The pie-pan dial is fully original with clean applied stick hour markers, all the original tritium dots are nicely aged and all present. The hands have been replaced for newer original Rolex hands. The movement has just been serviced and is running flawless.

ABOUT THE WATCH
The Day-Date is one of the most iconic Rolex watches. It was worn by presidents (hence its bracelet name), famous- and infamous people and became the watch to own if you were succesful. The watch was exclusivly made in precious metals (yellow gold, rose gold and platinum). It's named after the functions of the watch. It displays both the day (at the 12 o'clock position) and the date (at the 3 o'clock position). The cool thing about the Day-Date for collectors is that it's made in a very large variety of finishes and dials.

A BIT OF HISTORY
\nsThe Rolex Day-Date was first created for a small niche, and later became one of the most iconic Rolex models ever produced. 1961 was the first time the ref. 1803 (fluted bezel) appeared in the Rolex collection - together with the references 1804 (diamond bezel) and 1806 (florentine bezel). It was later expanded in 1963 with the references 1802 (smooth bezel) and 1807 (bark finish) and 3 year later in 1966 with the last addition for the 18xx series, the ref. 1811 with morellis finish.
